What is edging in office furniture?

An ABS edge is also called an edge. It is used to cover the cut edges of a furniture plate. ABS is a plastic called acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene. It is characterized by high surface hardness. Thanks to the flexibility of the plastic, the ABS edging ensures good impact resistance of the furniture.

Do I need office furniture edging?

Yes, absolutely. In our opinion, ABS edging is an absolute necessity for furniture that is often used. Melamine edges are not recommended. Although melamine is one of the most durable materials used on surfaces and is therefore our favorite material for countertops, walls, and cabinet shelves, this material is not flexible enough to protect the edges. In cheap furniture, the edging is just poorly protected by a thin layer of melamine.

The result is unsightly cracks and broken edges. Repairs are often impossible or unprofitable. Instead of an elegant countertop, you can see chipboard.

Therefore, when buying furniture, carefully look at the protective edges that you use. Thick ABS edging is essential if you want to enjoy your office furniture for a long time.

In professional office furniture, as our own brands PROFI, shape i SMARTBOX only ABS edges are used. The edges are connected to the chipboard in such a way that they cannot be removed again. This keeps the furniture's appearance resilient, heat-stable, and resistant to abrasion and scratches.

Often, the details of the product also indicate the thickness of the edging. Make sure that it is at least 2 mm thick.
